How Long Does it Take to Build a Website in South Africa?

Most people assume getting a website built takes weeks or months. For SA small businesses working with the right designer, the reality is much faster.

One of the most common reasons South African small business owners put off getting a website is the assumption that it's a long, complicated process. In most cases, it isn't. Here's what the timeline actually looks like.

The traditional approach and why it's slow

If you go through a large agency or a developer who handles everything from scratch, the process typically involves an initial meeting, a brief, a proposal, back-and-forth on design mockups, a development phase, revisions, and a final handover. That can take 4–8 weeks at the short end, and months if the process gets drawn out.

For a large business with complex requirements, that process might be appropriate. For a small business that needs a clean, professional website that shows up on Google and makes it easy for customers to contact you, it's overkill.

How our process works

We build your demo before you pay anything. You don't sit in a meeting room going through mood boards β€” you see a fully functioning version of your actual website, built specifically for your business, usually within 24 hours of getting in touch.

From there, you request any changes you want β€” wording, colours, layout, photos. Once you're happy, we take it live. The whole process from first contact to live website is typically 48 hours. See the full breakdown of what's included.

What can delay the process

The most common delays are on the client side rather than the build side β€” usually waiting for photos, final wording, or a decision on something like the domain name. If you have a rough idea of what you want and can make decisions reasonably quickly, 48 hours is realistic.

If you're thinking about this and wondering whether to do it now or wait until you have everything perfect, the answer is almost always to start now. A simple, clean site launched this week will get you more customers than a perfect site launched in three months.

What about ongoing updates?

On the monthly plan at R99/month, ongoing updates happen through WhatsApp. You send a message with what you need changed β€” new hours, a new service, updated pricing β€” and it gets done without you needing to log into anything or understand how the site works. There's no queue, no ticket system, just a direct message.

On the once-off plan at R999, you own the site outright. Minor updates you can often do yourself through the content management system, or you can contact us for anything more involved.

The cost of waiting

Every week your business isn't properly online is a week that potential customers are finding your competitors instead. Check whether any of the signs that you need a new website apply to you β€” or if you don't have one yet, the only cost of starting today is 10 minutes to get in touch.
